Tiny Hopes of My Life.......

Hi to all my beloved once, to whom those are reading my short and tiny story. I don’t know how i going to complete this but its not my intention to challenge others or compete its only related to me and myself...

The days are going in a very complicated way, when for the first time my visa got rejected it’s seems that all the doors of life are closed only the hopes of next door remained in my soul i totally disappointed don’t know what have to do further I put all my efforts and life to pursue my masters in Germany all of a sudden dreaming of studying in Germany came to an end.

What next what i have to do what why when how, looks the whole world like a question mark and filled with ‘W’ words, then i started thinking is this close for all those my dreams of studying in Germany . Everything looks sad and unhappy no interest to do anything no interest to talk with any one, nothing there to share with any one, my parents were never showed they are unhappy even my brother’s no one is not saying anything. But there is smell of silence everywhere in house.

From the bottom of my heart there is small word saying that u can reach your destiny and your goal if you have this, then I started searching that what is that how can I get that but finally I got that ,that is keeping HOPE and believing myself. Then I started i realizing if I want to fly high I have to keep the failure as a steeping stone till to reach my destiny. later I told to my parents i will apply once again for the next year as though I have to start everything from the beginning including writing the entrance exam once again, applying to universities and most important thing that I have to keep up my patience till I have to reach my destiny.

My parents never blamed for anything they are always helpful in all the way totally i say they are back bone of me even my brother’s and my friends helped me in all the way. With all this support I started preparing myself to get hard for the next coming events and competitions.

Once again i applied to universities wrote exams got good scores and did all my efforts to get admission and waiting for the result. One fine day finally i got a call from Germany saying that you have got admission in our university are you interested to study here really I don’t know what have to say for that they told we put a mail to you in short way reply to us whether you interested are not. On that day itself got mail from them in a short way i replied I am interested to study here please send me admission letter after few days I received admission letter.

After getting admission next part the major is getting Visa as though it’s rejected for the last year I never hesitated to apply once again submitted all documents got interview call for visa in Chennai.

Went to Chennai with my close friend vinay for the interview I had my interview at 10.30 am after the interview they told you going to receive a letter with in a few days whether your visa as granted or not. Once again it’s all set to wait to keep the hopes of getting visa. After few days I got a call from the post master saying that you got a post letter that contain your passport so you only have to receive personally I told postmaster you can give to my home because i am outside he told ok then immediately I got call from my home my brother said you got your passport that not contain any letter only your passport I said I made it he couldn’t understand what I said in home everyone afraid once again whether its rejected once again i told if its rejected they will post a letter along with passport if not they will send only passport now in phone only everyone started celebrating including my house maid .

I told to my parents I did it, for this all i waited for one hard year now only left his traveling to Germany for the destiny so called “UNIVERSITY OF SIEGEN”.

Really I never knew that I am going to do it after the failures. I really say without my parents, brothers and all my beloved friends and so many who comes in my life help and motivated me I never going to do it without you all thanks to all of you who made me to come here in Germany thanks to all.

I will say still i not reached my destiny it’s just a small step till I have to achieve so many things with all your blessings and my hope I will think i will achieve.

HOPES KEEPS EVERYTHING ALIVE IN THE WORLD SO DON’T LOOSE THE HOPES BELIEVE IN YOURSELF RATHER THAN OTHERS SAYING TO YOU.

Thanks for your valuable time reading this small hopes of life……

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Ashwin Kumar
For M.S. (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING)

I always believed in one thing that the knowledge I have is just a drop in a big ocean. My education so far has helped me to realize my goals and I feel my real struggle to achieve it starts now. My career objective is to pursue research in an innovative and exciting area at the cutting edge of technology and to use the results of research to improve and optimize existing as well as design and develop new ones. It is after a good deal of thought and self-evaluation that I have decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering in the United States.

I have completed my Bachelor’s Degree with Mechanical engineering as my discipline from M.S.Ramaiah Institute of Technology; Bangalore affiliated to VISVESWARAIAH TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY in July, 2006. The realization of the extent to which Industrial Engineering can make a difference in today’s complex manufacturing activities came about during my working on a project in Hindustan Aeronautics limited (HAL). HAL is a defense establishment which manufactures aircrafts and helicopters for the Indian air force. I worked in the helicopter division and here I was exposed to various manufacturing systems and production techniques. My work has reinforced my confidence in my technical skills and ability to think independently, and helped me identify the need to be at the cutting edge of technology. Moreover, it has convinced me of the importance of higher engineering education in enhancing my skills as an engineer and in attaining my goal of working as an empowered professional in the industry.

In my seventh semester, I presented a seminar on Dacrotizing. The Seminar was named “Prevention of corrosion and Hydrogen Embrittlement in metals using Dacrotizing”. The seminar highlighted the effects of corrosion and Hydrogen Embrittlement and the techniques used to prevent it from occurring in metallic components like screws and nuts, which are critical components in most mechanical systems. This seminar also investigated the process of Dacrotizing which involves the application of zinc and aluminum coating on a metal which leads to the complete prevention of corrosion and Hydrogen Embrittlement in metals. The reason for choosing a topic like Dacrotizing was due to the fact that the industry faces huge losses due to corrosion of metallic components. If processes like Dacrotizing are developed and introduced into the production environment, there will be reduction in losses and hence increase in profit.

In the 8th semester of my engineering, I was involved in a project at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The project was named “Improving the efficiency of the main gear box test rig by design modification of the Thrust Loading assembly”. The main gear box test rig is used mainly to test the gear box of the advanced light helicopter (ALH) manufactured by HAL. The project was conducted at the Rotary Wing research and design centre at HAL, Bangalore. We improved the previous design of the thrust loading assembly of the test rig which lead to immense reduction in the inspection, maintenance and hence the testing time. Our designs were accepted by HAL and the modifications have been done. The new designs led to the increase in production, decrease in lead time, and also increase in the efficiency of the test rig.

In the sixth semester of my engineering degree, I got selected in Infosys Technologies Limited which was the first company to visit our campus. Infosys is one of the biggest software companies in India and the first one from India to get listed on NASDAQ. I always had an inclination towards doing something related to software sometime in my life and I grabbed this opportunity with both hands. I underwent a rigorous training at Infosys for four months during which I learnt a lot of new technologies like ASP.NET, ADO.NET and MS-SQL Server 2000 and C#. My CGPA is 4.57 out of 5 and this made me eligible for the maximum training and performance based incentive (TPI) of 12.5%. After the training, I got allocated to an Integrated Business Unit of my choice – Resources, Energy and Utilities (REUD). I’ll be working for various clients like Schlumberger, Dupont, British Petroleum and Southern California Edison to name a few. This has given me an opportunity to work in the corporate environment, which will lead to a better understanding of the industry. I plan to apply all these technologies that I have learnt in someway or the other in my future endeavors.

In summary, I see myself as a multi-faceted person with a diverse range of abilities, with strong logical and analytical faculties, and the resilience to work well under every situation. It would be a privilege for me to be a part of the Mechanical Engineering fraternity at University of Maryland, since working under your distinguished faculty and being involved in the research projects there would be an invaluable learning experience. Therefore, I eagerly look forward to the challenges of the Graduate Program at your University in the fall semester of 2007.

Statement of purpose

I always remember the instant when I was in primary school, an electrician came to our house to repair our old television set. I stood beside him watched carefully what he did. I saw a board which had tiny colored toys like structures standing on the board. He was checking front and back faces of that board with a meter in his hand and was doing something with a gun like machine. I was really amazed how he could make out the fault by seeing tiny lines behind that board. How that TV could catch a cricket match going on somewhere in other part of the world. I started doing that type of electric stuffs by opening our old radio set, at last receiving bashings from my mother.

From that day I wanted to know about the communication devices, therefore I chose to do my bachelor degree in engineering with telecommunication as my major in Siddaganga institute of the technology, a top ranked college for engineering in India. I am really awestruck by the mobile which could transmit & receive video, text, audio signals which are actually in 0, 1 i.e. digital format. I always work in PC by doing the programming for playing the multimedia files. I am practicing violin from my high school days and one of my future ambitions is to build my own digital instrument which could do anything for a musician or music director. Therefore I want to have master’s degree in electrical engineering doing specialization in “Digital signal processing” in any one of the premier US universities and also want to do PhD on application of DSP technology to medical field.

As my academic project, I implemented “direct sequence spread spectrum” a technology used in CDMA mobiles, and “atmel series microcontroller programmer using 89c52” as my final year project. I did my final year project in suyoga technologies, Bangalore a leading company in providing embedded technology solutions.

Now I am working on a .net project under contract for Enterprise software solutions lab, Bangalore. This experience is helping for better understanding of the computer technologies, computer networks. I am also having extra course on RTOS, Linux internals in Cranes software, Bangalore, an authorized training institute for Mathworks Ltd. which would help me for my research. Linux is such operating system which gives universality, efficient interface for any type of application.

In addition I have been a student member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) for the past two years. Through its workshops/seminars and publications like 'The Spectrum’ have exposed me to a lot of emerging technologies in the field of communications.

I have chosen US as it is a “land of rising technologies”. To get guidance under such eminent professors, scientists, inventors, it’s a great pleasure for any type of students. US have many universities which encourage research, and in the eye of the people of the world, US is a great land to pursue any type of education. Its highly cultured society, friendly environment, advanced fields of education motivates me and a great pride to be a part of this type of society. Thus conditions here are very conducive to supplement my aspirations when I return to India after completing my studies.
